Somnium is an immersive multimedia production that dives into the surrealist world of mythology and storytelling. Combining the collaborative work of artists from around the world, Somnium is a multi-sensory experience that transforms the waking world into the universe of dreams.

Recipient of the Rockford Area Arts Council Innovation in the Arts award in 2023 and Production of the year in 2025, Somnium introduces a futurist vision of public art and new media experience to the Northern Illinois region that stands alone across an international stage.

Somnium 2025 — One Weekend Only! Sinnissippi Park 

In its fourth year, Mentes Extremófilas presents Somnium: The Book of the Hollow Earth, the world inside our world, among the trees of the Rockford Park District’s beautiful Sinnissippi Park.

Somnium combines the visions of artists Odilius Vlak, Raymond Jáquez, Patrick Mattison, Verónica Soria-Martinez, David Stocker, Jenny Mathews, Zach Stephens, Alizé Jireh, Zheka Fedoseev and Valentina Fedoseva,  Faith Minneyfield, Ella Lakey, Maggie Arango, Arjuna Klonicki, Bill Houtkamp, Andrew Ehrhardt, ​​Prairie Smoke, Invisible Five and Chroma Club with sculptural contributions by José Santiago Román, Ben Hooker, Drew Helge and John Verl McNamara.

Somnium also introduces students to creativity through the Rockford Area Arts Council SPARK! Somnium Art Camp.
